Coming soon!
Hello, All,

We had a good meeting this week and have some updated info. Our meetings will now be held on the first Wednesday of each month rather than the first Tuesday.

We had a good turn out for the meeting and some good ideas were shared as well. One suggestion was to create a blog for our group in which we could all post images to share with one another, as well as a buy/sell forum, and a comments section. I will run the idea of a blog by the Board and begin looking into the logistics of it. I'll update you all further as this project comes along.

The main piece of businesss and discussion of the evening was the deadline for image submission for the upcoming River Arts show. The deadline for our River Arts District show has been extended until September 18th, but that is the absolute cut off. If you haven't uploaded photos, please do so at http://www.curvetheory.com/uploader We will have to hang the show by November 1st, so it is up before the next studio stroll. Because the images have to be judged and selected, then printed, matted and hung, the absolute deadline must be September 18th. Anything pertaining to the River Arts District is permissible, whether it be portraits, the urban landcape, a studio stroll etc. We look forward to your submissions.

Asheville Shows Paper Print Sizes

At a meeting earlier in the year, we discussed the mat and print sizes that are listed below but which can be changed or added to, to fit panoramic, squares, etc. Assuming that we'll be using standard paper sizes available to inkjet or silver printing, we've come up with the following sizes:

  • 11x14 paper
    • Crop 35 mm to fit
    • Print 4x5 or 6x7 to fit
    • With a standard mat hole of 10.5 X 13.5 you can make prints of
      • 9.5 X 12.5 (leaving white space between image and mat
      • 10.75 X 13.75 (mat covering edge of image)
      • Borderless 11 X 14 (mat covering edge of image)
    • Frame size would be 16.25 X 18.75
  • 13 X 19 paper for 35 mm
    • Could print 35 mm full frame 2:3 in several sizes to leave white space between image and mat, or not
    • With a standard mat hole of 12.5 X 18.5 prints of
      • 13 X 19
      • 12.75 X 18.75
      • 12 1/8 X 18 3/16 (2:3), which would leave about 1/4 " white space between image and mat.
    • Frame size would be 19.25 X 24 5/8
  • 13 X19 paper for approximate 4 X 5 proportioned images with a mat hole of 12.5 X 15.5
    • Could print 12 X 15 or 13 X 16
    • Square images could fit with different mat
    • Frame size of 19.25 X 21.75
  • I'm also thinking of a 35 mm 2:3 proportioned mat hole, using 11X14 paper for those of us who prefer smaller images.
    • 11 X 14 paper for 35mm full frame 2:3 images
    • With a mat hole of 9 X 13.5, an image size of 8.5 X 12.75 would leave 1/4 inch of white space between the image and the mat edge
Best regards,

Michael M
